The Intermediate Codec is a high quality 8-bit 4:2:0 video codec that is primarily used as a less resource intensive CPU capture method with MPEG-2 Long GOP material such as HDV. Recommended for full use with all HD workflows in Final Le Express, iMovie editing, and up to version 5 of Final Cut Pro. The abbreviation Apple Intermediate Codec (aic surfers, Apple engineers don’t often use this abbreviation) designed for Apple Inc. feels like an intermediate format in a very good AVCHD hdv and workflow. It provides high performance and quality as it requires more CPU resources compared to other editing formats. Apple was used because this product is less CPU intensive; so many times the compression scheme didn’t need your next frame to be rendered. It is still used in iLife, iMovie in particular, but rarely used in Cut final Pro, only due to version 6 because it currently uses ProRes codecs instead of Apple’s intermediate codec, some select versions of Cut final Pro (HD 4. I regularly use 5) 5 and Cut final Express.
HDV Definition (high Ist video) is a video format that allows HD video to be recorded on standard DV cassettes. Its compression scheme is called MPEG2 long-GOP. HDV is a format created by hd, a consortium of Sony manufacturers including JVC, Canon and Sharp. HDV allows you to record up to 60 minutes of HD video on DV mini reference tapes. You can connect your HDV camcorder to your computer via FireWire, record and use it like any other DV device.
It uses Long-GOP MPEG2 if you need a maximum data rate of 25m/s, compressing what is considered normal DV video. it is usually a high output of high definition images in a shorter space. The term “long” refers to the fact that the P-frames used, i.e. B-frames, are between I-frame time intervals. which uses only I-frames In formats such as IMX, only I-frame is used, which minimizes temporal artifacts and improves editing capabilities. However, i-frame-only formats have a much higher data rate because each frame must store enough data for the data to be completely self-contained. So while your computer’s computing requirements have decreased, hard drive speed and scraping capacity have increased.
1080-line HDV media uses Open GOP Compose, which means that some B-frames in mpeg streams may depend on frames from neighboring groups. 720-line HDV media uses a closedth GOP, which means a structure in which each Now group is self-contained and does not refer to frames outside the GOP.
HD compression requires a lot more data than SD video. one A higher resolution video image may require half a dozen times more data than an SD image. To digitally capture such large photos with such little data, HDV uses MPEG Long GOP compression. MPEG compression reduces the bit rate by removing redundant visual information both on a frame-by-frame basis and across multiple frames.
Note: HDV specifically uses MPEG-2 compression, but the concepts related to i-frame-only compression for long sequences discussed below apply to all versions of the MPEG standard: MPEG-1, MPEG-2, and MPEG-4 (including AVC/H.264). For the purposes of this valuable explanation, the term MPEG in general could probably refer to any of these same formats.
AVCHD is an HD video structure co-developed with Sony Panasonic. AVCHD uses Advanced Video Coding (AVC) compression (also known as MPEG-4 Roll or H 10.264) Achieve high image quality at low bit rates. MPEG-2 HDV, AVCHD and Apple Intermediate Codec record some digital component video signals (Y´CBCR) in 4:2:0 format. Each sample (pixel) has a resolution of 8 bits, which is not a big problem for editors, since HDV and AVCHD both work in the 4:2:0 color space.
